I had an idea about trying to bring my spiral curl upwards and become more horizontal, stacking the pieces like a staircase that curled into itself in a double helix shape. I created four more copper forms that were three inches square to make it easy to pour the caramel stairs in batches of four.
I wanted to stack the caramel squares in such a way that they would curl out and around and then meet back up together at the top. I thought this could have been an interesting display for small desserts like truffles or bonbons, they could be stacked up the staircase and it would be an impressive sculptural piece for an event.
I created several foam core models trying to figure out the distance and size of the caramel squares I wanted before I made the copper forms. Below are images of those models.
